Check Your Fire Alarms Now – It could save your life.
After the sad news of a devastating fire in Milwood this week, our thoughts and prayers go out to our neighbors who were affected.
Take a moment and test your fire alarms now then make an escape plan and remember to regularly test your alarms and if you see something you feel is concerning and could be an emergency call 911 right away just as this Milwood neighbor did.

The only prerequisites are that the citizen reside in a privately-owned home and have a genuine need for our assistance.
Upcoming Community Events: “Step into Spring” and “Open Government Symposium”
The City of Austin is hosting two free upcoming events that may be of interest to District 7 community members: Step into Spring, a three-day family fun activity, and the Open Government Symposium, an informative all-day event discussing open government and transparency.
“Step into Spring” takes the place of the Austin New Year’s celebration that was cancelled due to forecasts of inclement weather. The events occur at Mueller neighborhood on March 22 and March 25, and April 1, and will feature bands, performers and hands-on activities for Austin families (see attached flyer for details).
The Thinkery and Mad Tiger Festival have stepped forward as community partners to produce the events with entertainment provided by the City of Austin. Many of the Step into Spring performers were originally slated to be part of the Austin New Year’s celebration. Here’s hoping for great weather as the city collectively welcomes spring!
The City will host its second Open Government Symposium on April 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at City Hall, 301 W. Second St. It will feature five panels of legal experts discussing open government issues, including the role of an ethics and compliance program in supporting government transparency. Opening remarks will be given by Mayor Steve Adler. To register for the symposium and view the full agenda, visit austintexas.gov/opengov2015.
Though very different events, both are open to the public and offer a free opportunity to learn more about what’s happening in Austin within the arts scene and government world. Step into Spring flyer
