Further update from Cap Metro in regards to the steps to launch the train

From Cap Metro:

Many folks have asked me what is still left to do in order for Capital Metro to begin service on the Red Line.

Before we can open for service, we must

·         Complete some modifications to the traffic control system software

The Centralized Traffic Control System (CTC) System monitors and controls the location of trains on the rail line. The “vital logic” of the CTC System software is not functioning as desired. During a test that simulated a manual (i.e., human) error, the system did not default to the safest operating mode. Additionally, we have encountered other issues that require software modifications.

·         Finish clarifying operating procedures that govern emergency situations, signal operations, and permissible train locations relative to rail construction work zones (“worker protection”)

·         Complete the documentation that describes how all parts of the entire system work together (the “system integration documentation”)

·         Complete modifications that affect the timing of the gate arms at the Lamar, Braker, and Kramer intersections

·         Finish installing the radio communication system

·         Conduct further testing and final validation of the entire system.

We expect to complete the above tasks in the first quarter of 2010. We will contact the Federal Railroad Administration within 30 days of opening.

Capital Metro latest

Capital Metro balanced its operating budget by tapping $2.6 million in federal stimulus funding for operating expenses; however, the Capital Metro Board also directed staff to begin the public process to increase fares sooner than Aug. 2010.  Additionally, Cap Metro says no Metro Rail this year, and establishes a target to open the Red Line in the first quarter of calendar year 2010.

Cap Metro will be at our general meeting, in addition to our police liaison, so its a good meeting to attend.  Wednesday, September 30, 7pm, Milwood Library.

CAMPO Survey

The Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization is soliciting input via an online survey about the region's transportation future, including those areas, such as sidewalks and transit, that should be priorities for funding and investment.  The survey takes only about 5 minutes to take, but will be used to determine the next 25 years of transportation planning, funding, and implementation.
"People, Planning and Preparing for the Future" is the new regional transportation plan under development with your input. Get involved by taking the '3 Concepts' survey, visiting a traveling info booth, orrequesting a CAMPO speaker for your group or organization. The '3 Concepts' survey will be open until October 15, 2009.

Crime Increase in Milwood – on KXAN

Crime Increase in Milwood – on KXAN

Neighbors,

Please be on alert as there has been an increase in reported crime around Milwood.  Burglaries are occurring during the day, presumably while people are at work.  It seems that the thieves are entering homes through backyards by either kicking in a door or breaking a window.  Please be aware as you drive around our neighborhood, and report any suspicious activity to the policy immediately.  APD is working to help us put a stop to these break-ins.

We will have a chance to discuss this increase in crime with our APD District Rep at our Fall General Meeting on Wednesday, September 30 Please join us to learn more.

The issue of increased crime in NW Austin was also highlighted by KXAN.  Click HERE to read the story.  The story should also be airing on the 6:00 news tonight (Wednesday night).  After it airs, the link to the story should be posted to their website.
