Mopac Lane Closures this weekend (Feb 26-29)

Mopac lane closure details for Feb. 26 through Feb. 29 … There will be several different lane closures executed this weekend in order to complete the reconstruction of the bridge approaches along the southbound main lanes for the bridge spanning the Union Pacific Railroad.

The closures will begin at 7 PM on Friday evening with a single left lane closure along the southbound frontage road from Duval road to the entrance-ramp. Work along the main lanes will begin at 10 PM with a single left lane closure, during which time traffic will be reduced from 3 lane to 2 lanes. Also starting at 10 PM is the full closure of the entrance-ramp coming from Duval/Burnet road.

At around 12 AM on Saturday, work will progress along the main lanes, and a double right lane closure will be in place, reducing the travel lanes in this area from 3 lanes to 1 lane. Additionally, at 12 AM there will be a full closure of the exit-ramp to Braker Lane, along with a single left lane closure on the southbound frontage road from this exit-ramp to the intersection of Braker Lane.

All work is scheduled be completed with all lane closures picked up, and off the road, by 5 AM on Monday morning.

Improve your city or neighborhood with NPP

Neighborhood Partnering Program (NPP) will be holding a series of NPP Office Hours in all parts of town where Austinites can stop by and learn more about the program and brainstorm ideas. More information from the NPP:

“Greetings from the City of Austin Neighborhood Partnering Program,

We want to help you enhance your neighborhood! Is there a vacant piece of City property that your neighborhood dreams of improving? Or green space that could bloom into a community garden or pocket park? Whatever it may be, the City of Austin’s Neighborhood Partnering Program (NPP) can help. We’re coming to YOUR neighborhood to discuss how we can work together to turn your neighborhood wish list into reality. Join us for Office Hours at your local library, recreation center or community garden. During these sessions, we’ll brainstorm new ideas for your neighborhood, talk through existing ideas, and explain our program process.

Balcones Trail Meeting a Success!

The Jan 28th Balcones Trail Meeting seemed a success! The City confirmed that it will:
1. Add a Switchback to make a more user friendly Trail Design behind Scribe Drive. (Segment 4)
2. Find a solution for the Low Water Crossing where the creek will cross the Trail below the ball field off of Scribe/Canter. (Segment 2)
3. Allow for a temporary small trail re-route during the construction of the Waste Water Project so users can still access trails in and through the park safely. (off Segment 4)
4. Work from two staging areas so the different segments of the trail can be under construction at the same time, so the project’s time frame will be shortened by 9 to 12 months and the trail isn’t dependent on the Waste Water Project’s timeline. (Pertains to all Segments)

The switchback route is at 30% design and is projected to go out to bid in Dec 2016 and to be completed by Dec 2017.
The Waste Water Utility Project, which is going out to bid this month, is estimated to last 18 months with the Trail portion of the project to be completed within 12 months so Dec 2017 as well.

Segment 5 is still undefined at the moment, but will either be a crushed granite path or a 8ft wide concrete trail connecting Scribe Dr to the trail.

Another Thanks to Milwood’s own Erik Harris for all his hard work and countless hours on this project!

Weekly Recycling or Organics Collection? – Give Your Feedback to the City

Take the survey to weigh in: http://bit.ly/arrservice

Need ideas on how to decrease your landfill trash… Check out MNA’s Recycling/Trash webpage. We provide easy solutions for Styrofoam, Table Scraps/Compost, and more.

District 7 (Milwood’s District) is currently in 4th place for the Recycling Games Competition. A competition that will earn the winner and most improved a library or park project! Please help us get to 1st!! Recycling all you can!

Per the City:
We have done the math on expanding Austin Resource Recovery services and now we need to hear from you – our customers. We invite you to take a survey and join us at one of our upcoming Community Meetings:

**6:30–8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016
Parque Zaragoza Recreation Center, 2608 Gonzales St., Austin

**6:30–8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016
One Texas Center, Room 325, 505 Barton Springs Road, Austin

Austinites told us last year that one way to increase community-wide recycling is to collect recyclables weekly.

As we pursue our goal for Zero Waste, we also conducted a popular Curbside Organics collection pilot with 14,000 households where we collected food scraps and yard trimmings in a third cart.

What do you think? Input from customers will be considered when preparing the proposed fiscal year 2017 budget, which will be presented to the Austin City Council later this year.
