Nightly MOPAC CLOSURES for Northbound MoPac:

Beginning Tuesday evening, November 29, 2016, workers will be completely closing northbound State Loop 1 (MoPac) each night after 8:00 p.m. between Lady Bird Lake and Enfield Road. All traffic will be detoured off the Enfield Road exit. Drivers will pass through the Enfield Road intersection before re-entering MoPac. Law enforcement officers will be actively managing the traffic signal at Enfield Road to keep traffic moving. The Cesar Chavez and 6th Street ramp to northbound MoPac will also be closed, with traffic diverted to the Enfield Road onramp. All lanes and ramps should reopen each morning by 5:30 a.m. (Map Attached)

The closure of northbound MoPac is needed to install new asphalt pavement, so MoPac can be restored to three northbound lanes between Lady Bird Lake and Enfield Road. The third lane has been closed since February 2016, when traffic was temporarily realigned to make room for construction of an Express Lane underpass.

Originally, workers intended to perform the paving work the Weekend of December 3rd and 4th, but the threat of cold weather and rain led to an expedited work plan. The goal of the new plan is to ensure the third northbound lane reopens prior to the start of the Trail of Lights on December 10th.

It is expected to take at least four nights of closing MoPac to complete the work necessary to reopen the third lane. Depending on weather conditions overnight closures may be needed the week of December 5th to complete the work.

The closure of northbound MoPac is expected to cause significant travel delays. Drivers are encouraged to avoid northbound MoPac while this work is taking place and to use alternate routes if possible. Full details about the lane and ramp closures can be found at www.mopacexpress.com

Northwest Corridor Active Transportation Study – Share YOUR Ideas before its too late! Thurs, Nov 10 at 5:30pm

Hey Neighbors: We went to a version of this meeting today and were able to give input but they need to hear from more of us, so if you want to share your ideas try to make this meeting… We discussed things such as re-routing Pond Springs Rd to create more of a destination, narrowing McNeil and Jollyville Roads to possibly only 1 lane each way, adding more access over/under/around 183, and much more – all based on the idea of adding additional lanes to 183. The bulk of the project is based around 183 however its plan affects surrounding too.

In order to create the best plan they need to hear from a large number of the road, bike and pedestrian users, so if you can make the time – please attend!

“This is a friendly reminder about the next public meeting for the Northwest Corridor Active Transportation Study. Help us make walking and biking better in the Northwest corridor by attending and sharing your input!

At this meeting, CAMPO and the Project Team will share information on existing corridor conditions; recommended bicycling routes, lanes, and trails; pedestrian focus areas; and other recommendations for walking and biking needs near and along US 183 from MoPac in Austin to Cypress Creek in Cedar Park.

Please help spread the word by sharing this email or the attached flyer.

Public Meeting – Near Northwest Corridor Case Study
Thursday, November 10, 2016, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

A Successful 1st Fall It’s My Park Day in Balcones Park!

Balcones Park got an excellent facelift last Saturday during the 1st ever Fall – It’s My Park Day! A Huge Thanks to Erik Harris, Austin Parks Foundation, Aggies Selflessly Serving In Shaping Tomorrow (ASSIST) who accounted for a majority of our volunteers, Home Depot and i Fratelli Pizza who generously donated their delicious pizza to all of the volunteers!

If you haven’t tried i Fratelli Pizza yet you should! A perfect dinner option while holding your breath over the elections maybe… (512) 795-8744 www.ifratelli.net
(Don’t forget to tell them Thanks for supporting our park when you call!)

We felt very fortunate that the great group of ASSIST traveled all the way from College Station to break a sweat, get soaking wet and dirty to make a difference in our park! A great bunch of students!

The volunteers accomplished repairs along edge of the basketball court, plantings at the bathroom rain garden, trash pickup, debris clearing in the creek, reclaiming of the playground pea gravel and more! We hope you all see the hard work when you are out next enjoying the park! For pictures click here.

Interested in saving your trashcan from your pumpkin & your pumpkin from the landfill? If so read on…

Our Curbside Composting Company, Break It Down, has offered to provide 2 barrels within Milwood and Walnut Crossing for anyone that wants to drop off their pumpkins for compost to save them from the landfill! So if you don’t have a compost heap, neighbor with chickens, and want to save your trashcan from your pumpkin…

The barrels will be available for pumpkins to deposit until Monday, Nov 7. Please NO METAL or PLASTIC of any kind. Wax and Water Based Paints are OK!

Barrel Locations are:
4606 Adelphi (near Wycliff/Adelphi intersection, the house with the very big lot)
12006 Scribe (3rd house in from Amherst opposite the park side).

Please note that if you already have a neighbor getting the Curbside Composting Pick-up from Break It Down (which you can tell if you see a Black 10 gal Bucket on their curb every Tuesday) then you could just ask them if you can add your pumpkin next to their bin before Pick-Up on Tuesday, so no need to deliver them to a barrel as long as they are mostly intact. More details on composting at your curb.
