Balcones’ Potluck Pool Party – Sat. June 11 from 2-4pm – All Welcome!

Let’s celebrate summer, our pool & great neighbors at Balcones’ Potluck Pool Party
Saturday, June 11 from 2 to 4pm at Balcones Pool, 12017 Amherst Dr, Austin, TX 78759.

We welcome everyone to bring a main dish, side or dessert to help us make this a complete community gathering!  Please bring your own water bottles or drinks of choice (no glass).

So come on out, bring a dish, meet your fellow neighbors, make friends with your soon to be swim team and swim lesson mates!

Swim Lesson Registration for Balcones Pool is ALSO Open! The Swim Lessons are in 2 week groups on every Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri for 30 minutes and only $57! Then you can stay and practice what you learn before and after! A great way to get your kids swimming!

Milwood Art Day – Sat. May 14, 2022

Milwood Art Day is a bi-annual event, celebrating local artists in the North Austin area. It is free and open to the public and draws hundreds of visitors from throughout the Milwood neighborhood and all around Austin. Over the last year since its beginning, Milwood Art Day has brought together over 50 artists, which included adults and kids who are painters, photographers, jewelry makers, ceramic artists, print makers, mosaic artists, performance artists, musicians, bakers, fine food purveyors, marching bands, balloon twisters and so much more!

Milwood Art Day is open to artists of all disciplines who live in North Austin. Artistis are invited to display/sell their works during the event, either in their front yards, another artist’s yard or in the Texan Market parking lot. It takes place in the Milwood neighborhood, primarily at 12400 Amherst Drive and scattered throughout. The artists stops are contained within the borders of the neighborhood. South of Parmer Blvd, east of the railroad tracks, west of the Balcones District Park, and north of Duval. If you live outside these borders, don’t fret, we will have you a spot for you at the Texan Market parking lot.

Become a Lifeguard at Balcones Pool or another Austin City Pool!

The City is desperately low on lifeguards this year and pools opening times and days will be affected as a result if we can’t resolve it. So please share and encourage! Thanks!

How to become an Austin Lifeguard?
1. Apply Now!
The Aquatic Division’s hiring process is simple. All applicants need to complete an online application through the City of Austin Jobs website. Applicants must be 15 years of age or older. Follow us on Facebook for the latest information.

2. Get Hired!
Training classes are available throughout the year! Complete your paperwork and see our training schedule below to find out when you can get certified.
The Aquatic Division conducts trains and hires staff year-round. After submitting an online application, you should receive an email from the Aquatic Division within 48-72 business hours. This email will contain all additional paperwork and information necessary to get trained and get hired. You must submit all paperwork and employment verification documents in order to register for a Lifeguard class. Should you have questions, you can call 512-974-9330 Monday through Friday, 8AM-5PM or email us at AquaticsOffice@austintexas.gov.
3. Get Trained!
The Aquatic Division takes lifeguard training and certification seriously. Classes are offered for first-time lifeguards, returning lifeguards that need re-certification, and lifeguards that are interested in becoming an instructor. StarGuard Elite classes are available for applicants of the City of Austin only and this certification is valid only at City of Austin pools.

Lifeguard Instructor Course Schedules – LGI classes are available to current employees with Lifeguarding experience. Please talk with your supervisor for more information.
StarGuard Water Safety Educator – We also teach swim lessons and water safety! Water Safety Educator classes are also available to all City of Austin Aquatics employees.
4. Get Working!
Once you have completed steps 1-3, you’re almost ready to start saving lives. You will be contacted to sign up for scheduling and to attend your first inservice training, so find out what pool is closest to you!
Bonus Details:
Lifeguard and Aquatic Temp Jobs
Signing Bonus of $500 to be paid mid-season to lifeguards and temporary aquatic staff who:
Are trained and ready to work by June 6
Completion Bonus of $500 to be paid at the end of the season for lifeguards and temporary aquatic staff who meet both of the following criteria:
Work 15 hours the last week of summer (August 7- August 13, 2022)
Are available to work on Sunday, August 14 (AISD classes begin on Monday, August 15)
Advanced Certification Bonus of $250 for any lifeguard who obtains one of the following:
Advanced certification of Open Water Lifeguarding
Swim Instructor Certifications
Lifeguard Instructor

On Saturday, April 9, 2022, the Milwood Neighborhood Assoc was proud to host our Batteries, Oil, Paint and Antifreeze (BOPA + styrofoam) collection event after a 2 year break due to COVID restrictions.

We had a overwhelming response from the area and are proud of how much we were able to recycle and keep out of our landfills!

We could not have hosted this event without support and manpower from our sponsor, H&H Design and Build, and the Hanson family: Karl, Susan, and Evan.  H&H took a huge trailer of hazardous waste and two large van FULL of items to be recycled!
Thank you, H&H Design and Build!

Thanks also goes to all of our volunteers – Carolyn, Bethany, Johanna, Dessie, Michael, Dale, Meg, who made the event run quickly and smoothly for all!
Make sure you look them up for any remodeling needs you might have!
