Making use of Milwood Library

The Milwood library is a wonderful facility – we all know about the books and the critical meeting space it provides for many of the neighborhoods surrounding ours. I’m fortunate to be on the Library Commission, and was amazed as the amount of circulation that goes through the Milwood library. It is one of the busiest libraries in the whole city in terms of book distribution, and is well on the way to being a hub for other north austin libraries.

One of the most valuable perks we have living in walking distance of the library is the incredible FindIt System. This system is the reason my opinion of the library system went from “vaguely nice” to “extremely useful” and made me interested enough to seek to join the commission. If you aren’t using FindIt, read on.

With your library number and a pin, you can search for any book in the system, select “Place Hold” and then in the dropdown box for pickup select Milwood Branch. In a few days the book will arrive at the branch and be placed in a special rack for holds in alphabetical order.

Folks, this is netflix – for books (some dvd’s and tapes of course) – for free. If you haven’t tried it yet, give it a go!
