Let’s Trap and Spay/Neuter Feral Cats!

Did you know the Austin Humane Society will spay and neuter strays & ferals for free?

Are stray cats becoming a nuisance in your yard? Using your flower beds as their personal litter boxes? Hunting the birds? Fighting with your cats?

The best and only humane way to manage the problem is to reduce the feral population through natural attrition.

Come learn how easy it is if we all work together! The first community meeting will be Thurs. July 17 at 7:00. Location in the neighborhood to be determined.

This is the kitten breeding season and the time to act is NOW. Cat overpopulation has reached critical levels and up to 100 kittens every week are being killed at Town Lake.

Please email Brenda Harrison at baharriso1@gmail.com to confirm your attendance so we’ll know how many people to count on. If you are willing to share your living room to hold the meeting, please let her know.

A Fantastic Fourth of July Celebration!

The Milwood Neighborhood Association and Walnut Creek Neighborhood Association hopes everyone had a great time at our annual Fourth of July Parade and Picnic. Judging by the amount of people participating in the parade and the amount of food we served, this has definitely been one of the best attended celebrations in the last few years. the estimate we decided upon was about 400 people participated in the event.

We talked to several people who were joining us for the first time, even though they’ve lived in the neighborhood for a while, and all seemed to have really enjoyed themselves and were impressed by the large turn out. Hopefully everyone was able to at least meet a neighbor they did not know and that everyone feels a little bit closer as a community.

I personally want to thank all the volunteers who helped during the event – from those that arrived early to set-up, the guys manning the grills, the tireless volunteers that helped serve the food, to those that stayed behind to clean-up and pack everything away. Without the efforts from these great volunteers this event wouldn’t be possible.

We also want to recognize the sponsors of this event. Without their contributions this event wouldn’t have been as great a success as it was.
