Our neighbors in Walnut Crossing have scanned in the proposed maps of the trail connection between Balcones District park and Walnut Creek district park. Looks exciting! follow the link here.
You may have noticed that there is a new crosswalk connecting the neighborhood to the park across Amherst. We had specifically requested that in response to a citizen request, so it was nice to see it appear out there a few days ago! We’ll also talk to the Austin Parks Foundation about a new neighborhood sign at that corner now that it is a logical crossing area.
They may call it a winter schedule, but it sure doesn’t feel like it. If you are still looking for ways to beat the Austin heat, our very own Balcones Neighborhood Pool will continue to be open on a limited schedule.
Also, note that there will be a charge for entry to the pool during the winter schedule –
$2 for Adults, $1 for Seniors (62 and older), $1 for Juniors (12-17), Free for kids 11 and under.

If you like fresh organic fruits and vegetables, you’re in luck. An organic grower, Miguel, will be setting up shop in the Texan Mart parking lot every Saturday from 9am-1pm, corner of Amherst and Adelphi. Miguel’s farm is in Blue Texas, near Lexington, and he has stated that all of their produce is organically grown. If business is good he hopes to bring in a few other organic growers to provide a wider variety.
I’ve talked with a few neighbors who have bought from Miguel and so far reaction has been positive. We bought a watermelon from him this past Saturday, and it was delicious. So, if you’re interested in fresh vegetables and fruits this may be an option worth looking into.

Texas shoppers get a break from state and local sales taxes on August 17, 18, and 19 – the state’s annual tax holiday. Lay-away plans can be used again this year to take advantage of the sales tax holiday. A full list of tax exempt items can be found on the Comptroller’s website.
