As you may be aware, Union Pacific is in the process of clearing the right-of-way along the exisitn railway on the west side of the neighborhood. They are currently clearing trees & debris, cutting and filling the embankment, and constructing a temporary crossing at Parmer Road overpass. Be aware that as the work gets underway, there will be times when the train whistles will blow more than normal to warn the workers in the area. If there are any questions or concerns, feel free to send us a note.

February 3rd Neighborhood Watch Meeting
Our second meeting with the Austin Police Department regarding the Neighborhood Watch program will be held at 7 pm, Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010 at the Milwood Branch Library. All neighbors are encouraged to attend for more information about recent neighborhood events and the Neighborhood Watch program.
This is the second required meeting and will get us just that much closer to reestablishing our Neighborhood Watch program in Milwood. We also need YOU to step up as a block captain for your street or section of street to help us communicate important information to your neighbors about how they can protect their homes more effectively. Becoming a Block Captain is a low-commitment, high-glory job! Thank you in advance for your help with improving the quality of our neighborhood.
This session’s focus will be on personal safety and is again presented by Officer Dunn, our local APD representative. This is a great time to meet Officer Dunn face to face, and especially, to meet your neighbors. We look forward to seeing you there.
Around the Corner – Spring events
We typically have a three events in Spring you can start penciling in on your calendar.

Wednesday, April 28 – Neighborhood General Meeting
March 6 – It’s my Park day
Also look out for a late winter/early Spring canned/nonperishable food item drive to benefit Caritas of Austin. Boxes will be placed at the Milwood Library, Summitt Elementary, and It’s a Grind coffee shop. Thanks for your support. There are many needy folks in Austin that Caritas provides goods and services for.
Bulk Collection Begins February 1, 2010
This is just a reminder that bulk collection begins February 1st for our area. I’m not sure if it is for everyone, but if you received a blue Bulk Collection postcard in the mail from the City of Austin a few weeks ago, then the time draws near.
If you want to double check to see if your house is in this pickup zone call the City of Austin Solid Waste Services.
