MULCH DAY CANCELLED !!!

Sorry Friends of Balcones Park,

Sadly there is NO MULCH to spread. Logistical and communications breakdowns force us to reschedule. We hope to have mulch at later date.

We will confirm the date when we get confirmation of actual MULCH being delivered.

Sorry again, have a good, mulch-free Saturday!

How To Address Code Compliance Issues

We all want our neighborhood to continue to be clean, neat, and a desirable place to live. Recently, we have had a number of requests inquiring about what you can do when you see neighbors not maintaining their property or in other violations of city code.

City of Austin code violations can include but are not limited to:

  • Tree branches not be trimmed
  • Weeds/grass over 12 inches
  • More vehicles than registered drivers on the property
  • Vehicles improperly stored on or near the property

To learn about the most common complaints that the City of Austin deals with and to learn how to file a complaint, please click here.

Upcoming short road closure on Dorsett

So, the city called and there is apparently a storm drain that was "discovered" in the prcess of doing the union pacific siding project that is causing a complication.  There will need to be a road closure at Dorsett and Everest at some point, soon, to do some under street stuff for a couple of days.

The complication with this, of course, is that the Truss company won't be able to use Dorsett to get out, and therefore they would have to use Hawkhaven for a couple of days.
I'm discussing with the city trying to do the work next weekend to hopefully get the work done and avoid huge trucks through the neighborhood.  This costs overtime, but seems like a small thing to ask given the poor survey work lead us to here.
Because it is Friday of Spring Break, getting the right people on the phone is basically impossible.  But we'll try to pick this up on Monday.  Stay tuned.

Theft of Property on Cassady Drive

We received information about a theft of property and would like neighbors to be alert.

A large generator was taken out of the bed of a pick up truck on the early morning of March 16th, on Cassady Drive.  Thieves also broke into the truck tool box and stole several power hand tools.

Please remember to remove all valuable property from your vehicles and secure it when you are not present and especially at night. Also be sure to lock your vehicles and homes, even when you are at home.

Finally, Cassady Drive does not currently have a Neighborhood Watch block captain. If you live on Cassady (or another neighborhood street not currently captained), please consider becoming your street’s captain. It is a low impact, high reward job and you will get to know all your neighbors. If you are interested, please contact us to sign on.

April 3 Balcones Park MULCH DAY

From our friends in the Walnut Crossing neighborhood…

————————————————————–

Mark Fisher is coordinating with the Park Dept to have some MULCH delivered
to Balcones Park on Saturday April 3.

We need volunteers to come out and help transport it to a number of TREES
and other areas that are in need of mulch to protect the roots.  The trees
and areas will be marked ahead of time with ribbons, and we just need to
move and spread the mulch.

ALSO that day, we may start a campaign to clear areas of Lagustrum (the
invasive non-native plant) where its going out of control.  We need to haul
what we cut to the parking lot.  Obviously we will only make a small dent in
this process in one day, but we need to start somewhere.

Kids are welcome to help out, they were great last year, and those looking
for less strenous ways to help can do some trash pickup along the trails and
riverbeds.

More details will be forthcoming, but if you want to keep our park looking
good, mark your calendar and plan on coming out!
