The City of Austin is currently designing a right-hand turn lane on Duval Road for traffic turning right onto Amherst Drive. There are many overhead and underground utilities on this corner that would be relocated prior to road construction. Due to utility relocations, all existing trees on the northeast corner of Duval and Amherst would be removed. Replacement trees would be planted around the entrance and parking lot of Balcones District Park. It would also be necessary to re-grade the ground between Duval and the park drainage ditch. Disturbed areas will be re-planted with wildflowers. Construction is expected to begin in summer 2008 and will last for approximately 4 months.
