Thanks to everyone who came out last weekend to celebrate Independence Day with the Milwood and Walnut Crossing Neighborhood Associations! It was another successful parade and picnic topped off with fantastic music by the Austin Civic Wind Ensemble. We hope everyone enjoyed the food, music, raffle prizes, meeting your neighbors, and learning about Businesses in Your Backyard.
A special thanks goes out to all of our volunteers to helped create another fun event for our neighborhoods. From loaning supplies, to grilling, setting up and tearing down, passing out fliers, baking cookies…everything! – we truly could not pull this event off without your help and support.
There will be Run-Off Elections for a couple of seats in Precinct 259 for the Joint General and Special Election. An ACC and a school board seat are up for grabs.
Early voting will be held starting next week and run June 1-8. Election day is on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Summit Elementary School.
These local elections often have incredibly low turnout, so your vote will count in a very big way. Please be sure to come out and vote.
An orange, male stray cat has been found near Balboa. The cat is described as very friendly and probably being missed by his family. He looks like he’s been in a fight in the past and possibly lost his collar. If you know who this cat belongs to, please contact us ASAP. The people who found the cat will be taking him to a shelter in a few days if no one comes forward.
A whopping good week for lost and found dogs being reunited with their owners. The total is four since last Friday. Two happened so fast they didn’t even get posted here!
REMINDERS:
Today, May 14th, a Golden Retriever was lost from its home on Cabana Lane. The dog is approximately 70 lbs with white/blond fur, and answers to the name, “Ben.”

Please join your Milwood neighbors for the spring General Meeting at 7 pm on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at the Milwood Branch Library.
We will have Cap Metro give us an update. An Austin Police Department representative will give us the latest statistics on neighborhood crime. We will also discuss upcoming neighborhoods events.
